Dewayne Smithers learned how to hip-hop when he was ten years old. By the age of seventeen, he mastered the art of freestyle hip-hop. From there, he started doing local hip-hop concerts in the state of Kentucky. He became a Christian at the age of twenty-four years old. It was then he put his hip-hop career on hold and started doing spoken word. From there, he started traveling nationwide performing spoken word at churches and youth events. He started speaking in 2007 when a teacher at Morton Middle School invited him to speak at their youth rally. Dewayne blends storytelling, real-life lessons, and high-energy performance to connect with young audiences. As a former at-risk youth who used music and mentorship to turn his life around, his talks focus on resilience, goal-setting, and creative expression. Whether he’s onstage with a microphone or leading a hands-on workshop, Dewayne builds trust fast and inspires action.
